Stump Grinding FAQ: Straight Answers. No Surprises.

Every stump is different, so we price by the width at the base, how many stumps there are, how easy they are to reach, and how you want the area left. Text us a photo (or use our Measure Your Stump tool) and we text your price back, usually the same day. Very large or many-stump jobs may need a quick look in person.

Travel, setup, grinding the stump below ground level, and raking the grindings back into the hole and leveling it off. Hauling the grindings away, or hauling plus topsoil, seed and straw, are available add-ons. Your price is confirmed before any work begins.

Yes. Additional stumps cost considerably less than the first, because the trip and setup are already covered.

Usually 6–16 inches below ground level, which is plenty for new grass or planting beds. Planning a patio, a footing, or a new tree in the same spot? Tell us and we’ll go deeper where it’s needed.

Grinding removes the stump and the major surface roots, which is what matters for mowing, replanting, and stopping regrowth. Deeper roots left behind break down naturally over time and won’t send up new shoots once the stump is gone.

Yes. Most of our jobs are 1–15 stumps, and land-clearing jobs can run 20 or more. We’ve ground stumps over 6 feet across, including ones left well above ground after tree work.

Stumps attract pests, sprout new growth, create tripping hazards, and get in the way of mowing. Grinding removes those problems and gives you your yard back.

We rake the grindings back into the hole and level the area so it’s tidy. Ground wood takes up more room than the stump did, so there’s usually a small mound of mulch left over that you can use in your beds.

Yes, as an add-on. You can choose haul-away only, or haul-away plus screened topsoil, seed, and straw so the spot is ready to grow back in.

Quotes come back the same day. Before any grinding, MISS DIG has to mark the utility lines, which usually takes about 3 business days. We’re typically on-site within 24–72 hours after the lines are marked.

No, we handle it. Once your job is scheduled, we open a MISS DIG 811 ticket so public utility lines are marked before we grind.

MISS DIG does not mark private lines, such as in-ground sprinklers, invisible dog fences, low-voltage landscape lighting, or gas lines to grills and pool heaters. Please flag or point those out before we start. We work carefully around them, but we can’t be responsible for damage to private lines that weren’t marked.

Yes. Stumpocalypse is fully insured, and you deal directly with the owner, Alan, from quote to cleanup.
